Island Cars Mauritius is an independent and unofficial directory of the businesses that rent or sell cars in Mauritius. It started as a small guide for self-drive visitors and became a directory built from open data, so that travellers, residents and expatriates can see in one place who rents or sells vehicles, in which town and how far from the airport.

What the site does

The directory lists 140 car rental desks, 147 car dealers, 5 scooter hirers and 1 long-term lease office, sorted by area and by town, with a relief map of the island on every page. Fourteen practical guides in the road-trip journal explain the documents, the insurance, the driving rules and the itineraries by coast, so that you can choose a vehicle that fits the programme and not only the price.

What the site does not do

It does not rent or sell any vehicle, does not take bookings, does not show prices it has not been given and does not publish ratings or reviews. Entries come from open sources described on the listing method page; they can be incomplete or out of date, so always confirm the conditions with the business before you pay or drive anywhere.

How it is kept honest

Every entry shows only what the source provides: a name, a town, a business phone number, a website. The distance from the airport is an estimate and says so. An entry that has neither a phone number nor a website is kept out of the search engines until it is completed. We never invent a rating, a review or a price, and we never publish the details of a private person.

For businesses

Every business can correct or remove its entry for free from the contact page, or get its entry verified for 250 Rs per month, without commitment. Correcting or removing an entry never depends on a subscription.
