Listing method: sources, licence and limits
Where the 293 entries come from, how they are cleaned, and what this directory does not know.
The source
The entries come from the Overture Maps Foundation, release 2026-10-21.0, under the CDLA Permissive 2.0 licence, extracted on 2 November 2026. This open dataset gathers public places that come, among others, from OpenStreetMap. We keep only the public fields of a business: name, town, a business phone number, a website, a social page and a position. No data about a private person is kept.
The cleaning
We select the places classed as car rental, leasing, motorcycle rental, car dealer and used car dealer, plus the places whose name contains “car rental”, “rent a car”, “car hire” or “scooter rental”. We discard holiday villas and hotels that offer a car as an extra, chauffeur services, places without a name, places whose confidence in the source is below 0.30 unless they have both a phone number and a website, duplicates and fake websites such as maps or messaging links. Each international brand is counted by desk. After this cleaning 293 entries remain: 140 car rental desks (39 of them desks of international brands), 147 car dealers, 5 scooter and bike hirers and 1 long-term lease office.
The distances
The distance displayed is an estimate: the straight-line distance between the position of the entry and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport, multiplied by 1.35 to approach the road distance, then converted into minutes at 42 km/h. It does not replace a navigation app.
What the directory does not know
We have no price, no review and no rating. An entry can be incomplete, old or wrong. A business that is missing is not left out for a commercial reason: it is simply not in the source. This directory is independent and unofficial; it is not affiliated with any rental desk, dealer or brand.
Correct, complete or remove
Every business can ask for the correction or removal of its entry from the contact page, free of charge. An optional plan to verify an entry also exists: see the page for businesses.
Requests from travellers
The requests sent through the form are stored with the consent of the traveller. During the launch phase they are passed on free of charge to businesses, and nobody is promised an immediate answer. No data is sold.
